Indian politician criticized on charges of sedition for taxing Pakistan

The Indian actor turned politician Divya Spandana was accused of sedition after the former member of the Congress Party praised the people of Pakistan and praised their hospitality.

A court in Karnataka province in southern India suspended the hearing on the sedition case recently filed against the legislator for “appreciating the people of Pakistan, the nuclear rival of India” as accused by a local lawyer.

The problem arose when Divya, commonly known as Ramya, returned to India from Islamabad and called Pakistan a “good country” after she was overwhelmed by the way it was treated.

With his comment, the 36-year-old politician also called on former Indian defense minister Manohar Paraikar, who had previously compared his visit to Pakistan with the same as “going to hell.”

The trial of Ramya for the case of sedition, which dates back to the British colonial era, could end in a fine and a prison sentence of up to 14 years if the charges against her are correct.
